national day madness

it's an annual recurring phenomenon around 9 august when hotels, restaurants and other retail/service establishments tout their offers exclusively for those born in the same year as singapore's independence or on 9 august itself. i don't think the marketing community realizes it, but they are giving this same group of individuals a field day every year. discrimination? maybe. but it pays to have the same birth day or birth year as our nation...lucky bastards.

jazz in the most unlikely place

every evening at this food centre i frequent, when many of the other stalls have closed, soothing jazz music is dished out in generous portions to the late dinner crowd and uncles sipping their kopis, beers and stouts. there are no hi-fi speakers in view so i can't quiet pinpoint which stall the music's coming from, but who cares. the atmosphere is extraordinary for a food centre - cool and strangely peaceful; it's almost surreal.

my soul

it's said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. so this must be what my soul looks like.

when the buying stops...

i couldn't bear to watch the whole clip...the things people do for money. this is happening in china, the stage for the 2008 olympic games. i love animals; i don't wear fur; i do eat meat. but it's sad to see helpless living things suffer like this - it's really uncalled for. i understand that people need to make a living and god made us lord over all the animals. but there must be a more humane way to go about this.

the acap has a slogan - "when the buying stops, the killing can too". it's sad, but i don't think so.
